A Young  Lithuanian Emigrant  Creates Portraits of Baltic Gods

A very cheerful start of the day,  reading a newspaper with an article about my own animations! (:]

Few days in 2013 I was contacted by the largest newspaper in Lithuania, 'Lietuvos Rytas' . Editor Dovile Lebrikaite has interviewed me about my character designs and animations, focusing mainly on  The Baltic Pixie

Shipmen Assistant

Photobucket
This is a sketch I had a while back. A little idea  was that in ship-building docks he is key assistant. Carries all the necessary tools, most importantly light. A job, I imagined, wouldn't need much qualification, so much like caretakers, a man could go into his elderly age still working it.

Progress of painting Shipmen Assistant.

Stage Visual Design and Animation

At the end of November I've been involved in an exciting project. The task was to create variations of visuals for stage performance. Key topic asked to develop luscious and bizarre visuals with a performative aspect to it.
I've created some concept images, which inspired the clients to give me freedom with this one :]

The video shows several sequences which were taken apart and looped at the event:

This involvement has been great so far, and it seems there is another project, even more challenging, waiting for me ahead. I'm quite excited.

It is good timing for me, cause few days and I will finish my splendid experience in creative product team, TMS worldwide  (Big thanks to Tom,  Dave and Bryn!)

Drawing Fresh: Airship

I continue on exploring some totally new fields to me. This time big fat thanks to Tom, for encouraging me to try totally new approach of drawing! I can't recall if I ever even tried drawing an airship too. It has been fantastic day!

Illustrating Life Challenge: Caricature

Today I did something new, a caricature of Megan fox :]. This is thanks to Ruben and Ivana, who set up a page called Illustrating life. There will be two weekly challenges focusing around capturing life.

I drew this image over my lunch break, it took me something around an hour. It was honestly fun, because not ever did I even thought to try out drawing caricatures. They are great glamour busters! (:D (hence the choice of  oversexualised Megan Fox icon  ).

Evolved from Octopus : Air Pilot

As a follow up to previously uploaded sea creature paintings and studies, here is a character concept for the air pilot. the thought was to reimagine a human, who evolved from Octopus instead of chimpanzees. I used this little project to familiarise myself with male anatomy and muscles.

A bit about the logic behind it. I tried to introduce a bit of octopus anatomy to it. Much like an octopus, the pilot's scull is relatively flat. Jaw is wide and there is no high bridge between the eyes, instead the eyebrows take much thicker shapes . His arms and legs resemble octopus tentacles in that they have quite defined edging to it. The chest over all takes the a light bulb-kind of shape too.

Octopi, Sea Creatures and Air pilots

These are series of study sketches ( with a twist , the colour finishing) for a collaborative character design task . The theme is Air pilots, but they have descended from sea creatures, (shown in images underneath).
They are extremely quick to draw, each taking roughly 30-40 min. I am keen to boldly explore use of colour and some new visual depicting techniques ( Thanks for the tips to Tom McDowell, great artist! ).

Life Drawing at Angel

Yesterday a group of us went to Angel, (a place close to New Designers venue actually) for a life drawing session. It has been a while since I last time did figure drawing, perhaps 4-5  months ago. So I found it extremely enjoyable after such a long break :] Also, to all of our pleasure, we had a really interesting model.

Painting with Cintiq, New Winds

Last week it was my first time ever I got to get close to one of them Cintiq screens, and I can only say it feels as it could develop into some form of addiction to drawing :D Really great tool! So, if there is good 20 minutes free, I exercise in sketching. So these two below are my first attempts (:]

This octopus, I imagine, should be first of the series of sea creatures, which I am studying for a personal collaborative character design project (more about it when I upload few more examples in the future). I study real life reference , but to make it more of a interesting task,   as well as explore character colour palettes, I just experiment with colour and composition

Another hour-long drawing was done for a topic by Illustration Friday Challenge:

A Test Toy Design Task for Mcdonald's Happy Meal, Monsters inc Theme

Following New Designers show, I was contacted by The Marketing Store, a company delivering marketing campaigns and toys for McDonalds, various films such as Aardman’s ‘The Pirates’ and many other companies. I was invited to attent an iterview with 4 product designers and mechanical engineers. After good three weeks they informed there was a brief task prepared. I had two weeks of time to create several toy designs for McDonald’s Happy Meal following Monsters inc. theme. After a successfull presentation I contacted shortly that day with an offer to join a 6 weeks internship! You can see the presentation here: Monster inc themed toy designs for Mcdonald's Happy meal by JJ Jolanta Jasiulionyte
