Storyboard Script, Adjusted Animatic and 'Laumikas' Concept

Tidying all the loose knots: storyboard script for my own convenience when further going to animating. Also it shows the planning of screen time, concerning the variety of shot structure.

I have revisited the animatic and added more panels for better flow and clarity. Shouldn't have changed that much in its essence

Lastly, in the animatic we see three other objects: the moon, the rainbow and the

'Laumikas, a sack of straws out of which a dwarf child grows!'

Vizualising the Story of the Fight between two Wolves

Leo and I today have finally drawn out an image sequence which now covers the full story. The decision was for both of us to try and create an animatic , so to see each's take. (A note on the soundtrack, it was edited, so at some parts, the pacing music suggests rather falls off...)

This sequence embodies a metaphor. Two wolves , which represent the good and the bad side in each of us, race from the unconscious part of our psyche to the conscious one, with the aim to take over and  dominate one's entity . On the way each of the two seemingly take over. However, it all comes to an equal fight at the end, as the legend concludes, there is no single winer, as it is us who decide  which side will take over.

Thumbnail Storyboards for WW Project

After discussions with Phil and Aland and brainstorming with Leo, I've gathered some intitial shot ideas.
So far I have a feeling the poses and angles ought to be even more so dramatic and well thought out, as the story will be suggested via these still poses and not an animated action.

For next few days the task is still to visualize the story aiming to gather a coherent sequence. This would inform our character designing as well as, even more importantly, what such type of story is asking from us to do ( for example, what other effects to include, or what elements to get rid of)

Panels are not put together in a linear sequence, instead they simply capture ideas for shots

From Waking up to Going up

Here are the storyboards for Ivan the Bird. Hopefully there isn't a big need to write what is happening as storyboards speak clearly for themselves.

But just to keep it brief: In the opening scene we see a Model of a bird. Soon a little Match character jumps in and wakes him up. Still disy the bird is curious of the surrounding. Few seconds later he jumps out of the window as he's most attracted by the "other" environments out there. But there was something to even bigger surprise to Ivan: he discovers the magical Island and attempts by any means to reach it: he attempts to float. To his biggest disappointment instead of swimming he sinks :/

Crushed , he goes back to the shore when.. Match! Is struck by an idea. or rather he remembers what he could do for Ivan. Match jumps on his chest, opens birds belly and strikes fire inside him as Ivan is a lantern. Moments later Ivan lifts in the air and to both biggest joy reaches the Island

The style of storyboards varie as it indicates the change of worlds and feelings of environment.
I'm glad to finaly have the story drawn out as it was playing in my head almost every day  till now  :D
Hope anyone who takes a moment to analysi it leaves some feedback, as I hope to make the story clear for the audience as well .
But at the moment its time to travel a bit :D

Storyboard for The Attack of 50ft Alien from Toyland

Nothing much to add here, except hopefully it conveys the sequence of the trailer. Also some changes are taking place as we work on the project.

Thumbnail Storyboards for The Attack of 50ft Alien from Toyland Trailer

Last week our studio Void Canvas was working on the development of the story. Then we (Bob, Ethan, Earl and me) came up with lots of ideas of what shots our trailer could include. As we were talking I tried to capture our thoughts with quick and veeery rough sketches. After these "workouts" (and these were real workouts, try to visualize and think of shots and the scenes, discuss it with the colleagues and draw all at the same time: D ) I would go back to the sketches and colour them ad add all the details and other elements . SO far these act as guidelines of the parameters of the world we're having so far. In near time we'll add some more shots, just not to leave it boring as it would be if the trailer had only that many shots in it.

And these were the original sketches :

Storyboard for the Slime Mold Life Cycle

Storyboard Artist: J.J. Jolanta Jasiulionyte

Storyboard's contribution to the development of the project can't be emphasized enough. From many reasons it is worth taking some time and allowing the luxury not to be rushing. (It was developed roughly in 4-5 days, what is a relevantly long time in 5 weeks long project) Such reasons would be that it is a tool to solve problems of staging, how all the elements will interact with each other, ruff idea of how the camera is going to move and so on. Only after storyboarding is finished, there's confidence to go and start constructing the animation, since it's like you've already rehearsed it.
The storyboard for the Life Cycle of a Slime Mold starts with amoebas gathering into a migrating colony. After what, a more difficult stage of the slime mold forming fruiting body and spores is explained in more detail panel by panel. When spores are formed, fruiting body starts drying out and releases spores to fall down. Spores gently reach the ground and new amoebas come out of the shells. Story is finished with a reveal shot that emphasizes  the scale and the extension of the beautiful process.

To bring clarity in production as well as to clearly communicate the direction in which animation is going to be produced all the panels are done in color with the desired lighting, staging and texturing. The aim is to keep the original look that's seen in the storyboard.

Storyboard for Lascivious Umbrella

The storyboard is a ruff map of the story as well as of the main actions characters are going to do. I'd guess in near future I'll add more panels braking actions into its details.

Storyboard: The Very Beginning of the one Minute Story

In the beginning of the story I thought to draw the background - the space where characters find themselves, because there's not a lot of actual action happening - we are only acquainted with what's the environment, whats the relationship between the characters etc. When "things will get more complicated" and there will be lots of action arrows I think I'll loose the background for both it is taking time and it distracts from understanding what's the action.
And maybe few opinions if I'm concentrating to much on the style, do the drawings "talk" because It's reaching the point when It's hard to see it objectively
