GIJOE Inspired Vehicle Design (and many thanks!)

So I'm imagining  GIJOE inspired vehicle to defeat the evil Cobra organisation, that  has developed a secret base on mars. GIJOE must take the fight to Cobra and venture to the red planet. Cobra’s HQ is deep into the core of the Martian planet, GIJOE must be equipped to get to Cobra and must be well armed for the battle about to ensue. And this is my take on it ! :]

The vehicle toy would be fully equipped with spinning drill to get to the core of Mars. It would have an abundance of dart launchers and disk launchers to defeat the cobra, of course!  The front... bonnet (?) would open to place the figurine inside too. Og, and all the rockets and squeeze launchers would flip or push-fit inside for the 'shielded' drilling mode :D

And here is some 3D development too. Just blocking out the shapes and breaking up into sections for (possibly) further modeling) Tried to maintain angular , mean shapes (Thanks for the advice Rich and Marius ! ) Also, in keeping with scorpion theme, went for rather over-sized rear (thanks to my sister for suggestion!)

As a little behind the scenes, I've considered some of the existing GIJOE toys as well as reference of vehicle design for films such as Armagedon, Martian. But more inspiration came thinking about what could fight cobra as an equal opponent. Scorpions and mongoose (Thanks Jono!) ! I went with scorpion :] (Thanks to FZD and Tom for cool work that I got inspired by too)

Personally, I felt like this little design challenge was something out of my comfort zone, as I've never designed a vehicle...modeled one, as a tutorial (thanks Alan! )  But it was fun. I was pleasantly surprised it did come together. And a lot is down to some good advice from a fair few people too , many thanks to them.

Thank you for stopping by x

Time's come for production. This is the model of 'Laumikas' a bag of straw out of which a dwarf-child grows.

Week of Modeling

It was of writting dissertation too..

After some while the evil wolf is resolved. It took good two days for body modeling and one for the head. The tricky part was to make it work as armour and as suggestion of body parts, which later have to function.

The good one was modeled last week

If there were lots more time, modeling could go into even finer details. However, I believe Leo's and my ideas for this character in animation should  be  enough. The only question I have at this stage is , does this model need UVs to be layed out? Cause the texture work for metallic ice supposedly will be coming from a more complex maya shader.

Also, some fynilising touches to the doll: face, trimming and posing.

Dynamics and Game Modeling

Maya classes introduced some new tutorials. Up till now there wasn't much experience  with dynamics in maya. The approach to creating effects like smoke, clouds, explosions etc. is of different to creating..say, a character or environment. The looks, volumes and behaviour is achieved by manipulating physical setings (including forces etc.) Not by modeling the object and conectin it to blendshapes to give an example.

I enjoyed to discover that almost any desired looks of effects can be created from scratch and that there is so much control over it giving the chance to create both unique and highly stylized effects if needed. Also the looks can be pushed even further in aftereffects when it i rendered separately and composited on top.
So yes, nice to see that the part which makes the audiences wow is relatively easily managed :)

As for the second part of tutorials, the human body modeling for games, I found it much clearer and faster to do after having done two full characters before.

Resolved Mustang Model

Car modeling tutorials  were such a set of confidence builders in modeling. Enjoyable and useful. I am quite happy to have finily finsihed this.

Car Modeling Progress; Week 9 and 10

Continue on adding front and rear details. With each one of them the car gets closer to its finished stage and really starts looking believable.
