Storyboard Script, Adjusted Animatic and 'Laumikas' Concept

Tidying all the loose knots: storyboard script for my own convenience when further going to animating. Also it shows the planning of screen time, concerning the variety of shot structure.

I have revisited the animatic and added more panels for better flow and clarity. Shouldn't have changed that much in its essence

Lastly, in the animatic we see three other objects: the moon, the rainbow and the

'Laumikas, a sack of straws out of which a dwarf child grows!'

"Queen of Baltic Pixies, I’m Laumu Laume Vaiva.

 

Late evenings one can see us sitting in the cobweb of the branches or hear our nattering in barns. Playful curiosities bring us to peasants’ doorsteps where we leave never-ending fabrics if one’s morality is well-kept... but were the peasant of a greedy kind…[what villainy my sisters do!]

Under new moon we gather by the riversides to dance and sing in groups of circles, but dare anyone steal a single glimpse! We’d tickle, tweak and maul the peeper!

We shape mountains, lakes and weave Rainbows - ‘Vaiva Strips’ .When we come to help with weaving, spinning wheels will go fast till breaking dusk! a peasant better bring enough of flax or substitute will be his hair, intestines and everything till nails left!

We switch babies and leave 'Laumikas', a little sack of hay straws instead. It grows into dwarf-child, big eyes and head.

So it is true, there is no certainty if we’re to offer help or cause great villainy , but spray of rowan or flexing pinkies are enough for peasant not to see which it’s about to be, as we’d shall stay away. "

The idea for animation now is resolved in detail , baring in mind camera moves, character acting, nuances etc.

Week's progress (!)

To summarize this week's experience... It was one of the most productive as well as the most hectic week this year. Didn't have time  to upload anything since apart from project work,  I worked  for University,  at career's  fare in Brighton (It looks like there's an expansive interest in CG Arts and Animation) and an open day at Rochester. So after all last week's fresher balls, house parties, pubs and festivals this week was all about concentration towards "the serious“

Most of the attention was given to our Narrative unit, studio experience.

 I was responsible for creating the concept art, animatic and script as well as fully resolving storyboards with additional panels and character design of the alien (this one still to be done soon).

I started with the military base concept. 

This is one of the most impactful shots in the trailer. I wanted the Military base to look cold and very inorganic as it is an institution of brutal force (at least that’s the perception we want to bring across in our trailer)   the progress of the work can be seen in the additional picture.

Second concept came for the abandoned toy scene outside the factory. It should capture the eerie and a changed atmosphere in the air as the meteorite is about to fall down and transform the silly-putty into the alien.  I tired to emphasize the “abandoned toy” theme in this concept.

Lastly, there is the concept of the city. We were researching Doctor Caligari’s cabinet  and some of the more contemporary animations (like Samurai Jack) so got some inspiration and a direction for this concept piece.  Its all covered under the eerie green sky and windows only further reflect it, one of the buildings actually reflects the monster in a very subtle way (red eyes ). Our world is stylized but still doesn’t lack of realistic details here ant there, in every corner.

This week after long formation of our idea, finally A script was written. (sorry for the spelling errors,  a foreign sitting late  is not the best speller :/ )

And finally,  I should be uploading the animatic, but considered not doing that, cause it's under developments, also its boring, cause there is no sound. I'll surely post it soon.

So there you go, pretty much all the secrets of The  Attack of 50 ft Alien from Toyland are uncovered :D

The Script for the Lascivious Umbrella

We see a wardrobe door.

Hand opens it

Puts the Umbrella in

There we see:

Umbrella after a slight pause notices the raincoat

He… calls for attention (by slightly widening his canopy few times first slightly and slow than a bit faster)

Waits for her response looking at her ( few moments of only slightest moves)

She turns to him and slightly ‘jogges’ showing an interest

He is excited and doesn’t wait to begin the performance

He JUMPS! in the air and POPS! Wide opening the canopy

Gets down bumping the flor a bit and leanes slightly back just to...

Start the shaking of the canopy in the way a peacock shakes his feathers.

Dances around her slightly stopping at a different points ( like just to fix the moment)

(finishes the ‘circle’ around her)

He again leans down to the ground abit (but more than the last time) and slightly closes his canopy

Jumps in the air! ( this time higher and more enthusiastic as well as drawing a curve in the air ( he is next to her and she is slightly turned to him) Popping open in to a hart-shaped canopy

And steadily,like a lightest balloon goes down beating like a hart ( such impression is created by the convulsing outlines or the continuously ‘beating’ colour)

Just before reaching the ground (one fourth of a fall) he comes back to it’s normal canopy-closed shape

And lands in to a split

Makes a slight move towards her to see the reaction/answer.

She’s amazed, she ‘jogges’ now stronger and claps her leaves

(MCU) they are getting closer to each other…

(CU) and closer…

Suddenly!

Doors open wide,

Quickly the hand reaches for ...(everything's seen from the hand angle)

(Hands POV) grabs the puzzled raincoat.

we see a shocked umbrella!(while hearing slapping door sound)

And (‘AAAwwww’) umbrella’s left disappointed… :/
